New Year's Day, 2016: Journaling to Divine Guidance

Dear Diary,

I’m feeling a little uninspired. Can you help?

Sure, I can help. What is your problem today? Please write it down.

Well, there is so much I want out of life. I feel I’m falling short. I often feel I’m not good enough. Can you tell me why I feel this way?

That’s a very good question. As your guide, I can help. First, you should know that your feelings are normal. They are nothing to be ashamed of. We all experience symptoms of malaise from time to time. Death of a loved one. Financial challenges. Relationship woes. Childhood traumas. The list goes on. Just be easier on yourself. Start with that. Especially on New Year’s Day when the race ahead seems daunting and the journey behind a little less than what you had hoped.

What are some things I can do to get me through this?

There are many things you can do. Here are some ideas. Go for a walk. Swim in the ocean. Brunch at your favorite restaurant. Play with your dogs. Call your best friend. Send out a greeting card. Take photos of the sunset. Watch a good movie. Do a good deed. Hug a tree. Live for today. Just be. And don’t forget about your beautiful woman. She is the spring of life you can tap into in so many ways.

Wow, this all sounds very transformative.

Well, it’s a start. You also might try releasing yourself from your thoughts by getting them down on paper. Give yourself a pat on the back for getting this far in your journal. Now aren’t you feeling better since you started writing? You’ve decided to open up and confront your fears by expressing your feelings. Look what you’ve just accomplished. You are in a much better state than when you started. I sense you are turning things around. You might even begin by making plans for your future.

But will it pay my bills?

It might. There are a lot of people out there looking for self-help. They are looking for inspiration and a guide. And they might be willing to pay you for it. Are you willing to give yourself to the service of others? Are you willing to give people good advice through your writing? Are you willing to help others get where they need to go? Are you willing to be a vehicle of God?

Yes. Most definitely. Tell me more.

That’s what it comes down to. Helping people get to where they need to go and making them feel good in the process.

Interesting. So how does this end? What do I do next?

It’s not how it ends. It’s about how it makes you feel. How do you feel, right now?

I feel much better.

That’s good.

Thank you journal. You are a trusty friend  I can count on when I need guidance and self-expression.

Yes. I’m an ever giving source. When you put something into me, you will get something out. Happy New Year. I look forward to our next encounter. Be well. I love you and, remember, I’m always with you.
